Important facts about our powder coating process

We love powder coating because it provides one of the best protective coatings available, it’s durable, and it looks great. Powder coated sheet metal can last an average of 20 years in direct UV exposure before needing to be redone. Even if you’re metal sign will be used indoors, sometimes you want a little color added!

This process involves applying a dry powder to the metal surface, which is then cured under heat to form a hard, protective layer. We offer powder coating in black, red, white, silver, and copper which allows for customized and aesthetically pleasing designs no matter the space.

Powder coating provides excellent resistance to chipping, scratching, and fading, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. Environmentally friendly, powder coating produces minimal volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to traditional liquid paints, contributing to a safer and cleaner production process.

Tumbling is included in all our metal sign manufacturing. What is tumbling?

Tumbling removes burr from the cutting edge of your part and provides a smooth, soft feel. Our tumbling services provide a reduction in surface blemishes and handling scratches that can be found in raw materials.

Benefits of tumbling:

  • Ensures uniform removal of burrs and sharp edges from machined components
  • Produces a more consistent finish than raw materials
  • Removes major imperfections from processing
  • Less invasive than other deburring methods and does not damage the integrity of underlying materials

Our Cutting Process

No matter your need, we have the means to get the job done. But not every job is the same. Material selection, size, tolerance, post processing needs, and more are all considered when choosing the best fabrication method to make a given metal sign. Each cutting process has its own advantages and challenges. Where one cutting method falls short, another offers a solution.

CNC vs. Laser vs. Waterjet Cutting

CNC, laser, and waterjet cutting are distinct manufacturing processes with differences in cutting method, materials, precision, heat effects, and cost.

CNC cutting utilizes computer control for cutting tasks, suitable for metals, plastics, and wood. Designs programmed into the CNC machine direct the router to cut or carve material with exact velocity and positioning. It is very precise but may generate heat.

Laser cutting employs a high-powered laser for precise cuts across a range of materials, with minimal heat-affected zones, making it ideal for intricate designs. It excels in precision and minimizes heat effects especially in detailed designs with small features.

Waterjet cutting utilizes a high-pressure stream of water mixed with abrasives, offering versatility in cutting materials without heat, suitable for metals, glass, and composites. The choice among these methods depends on factors like material type, desired precision, and budget considerations, catering to diverse applications in manufacturing and fabrication industries.

Laser Cutting

As the name suggests, Capable of cutting upwards of 2,500 inches per minute, laser cutting is the fastest method available, and often the most economical. Our high-powered fiber lasers range from 4kW to 12kW and are accompanied by a fleet of low-powered CO2 lasers. Highly accurate cuts with tight tolerances are the norm with laser cutting, the process of using a laser to make two-dimensional cuts into stock material. A laser is a very fine amplified light beam that melts, burns, and even vaporizes through work material along a preprogrammed path, making a highly accurate cut.

Giclee Fine Art Paper Prints

Q: What is giclee printing on fine art paper?

A: Giclee printing on fine art paper is a high-quality printing technique that uses archival-quality inks and fine art paper to reproduce artworks or photographs with exceptional detail and color accuracy.

Q: Why choose giclee printing for fine art prints?

A: Giclee printing is chosen for fine art prints due to its ability to capture the nuances of original artworks or photographs, ensuring vibrant colors and precise details that closely match the artist's original intent.

Q: What type of paper is used for giclee printing?

A: Giclee printing is typically done on acid-free and archival-quality fine art paper, such as cotton rag paper or textured watercolor paper, which enhances the longevity and quality of the print.

Q: How long do giclee prints on fine art paper last?

A: When properly cared for and displayed under appropriate conditions (such as avoiding direct sunlight and high humidity), giclee prints on fine art paper can last for generations without fading or yellowing.

Q: Are giclee prints on fine art paper suitable for limited edition prints?

A: Yes, giclee printing on fine art paper is commonly used for creating limited edition prints due to its ability to replicate the original artwork's quality and maintain consistency across multiple prints.

Q: How can I order giclee prints on fine art paper or canvas from your website?

A: To order giclee prints on fine art paper or canvas from our website, simply upload your high-resolution digital file or artwork under our Customization tab, select UDOUGHU Canvas and Prints and the desired size and paper type, then proceed through our easy checkout process.

Q: Why do some prints want to curl and not remain flat initially?

A: Some papers have more difficulty flattening out than others, especially during cooler months, but this can occur year-round. The prints are produced on rolls of paper, which can cause curling. While we ship most prints up to a certain size flat to help them lose their curl, thicker or heavier-weight papers may still need more time to flatten out completely.

Q: How well do photos print on fine art papers?

A: Photos print exceptionally well on fine art papers. More fine art photographers are turning to giclée prints because they often offer a wider color gamut and better visual quality compared to traditional photo prints. Advances in inkjet technology over the past 10 years have significantly improved the color gamut, contrast, and depth, resulting in superior photo prints on fine art paper

Production times for print services including ceramic tile, giclee prints, and fine art prints are 3-4 business days before shipping.  We review orders Monday through Friday to coincide with our shipping carriers.

Giclee Canvas Prints

Q: Will my giclee canvas print be ready to hang?

A: Yes, your giclee canvas print will arrive ready to hang. It comes stretched on a sturdy frame with hanging hardware already installed, so you can easily display it as soon as it arrives.

Q: Can I paint on top of or embellish my canvas?

A: Yes, you can. Many artists order their under-paintings from us, providing a solid base to further paint on or embellish as desired.

Q: Is a protective coating used on the canvas prints?

A: Our canvas prints are produced with new resin inks. The resin-coated pigments act as a built-in liquid coating for each ink drop, eliminating the need for any additional liquid coating or laminate as done in the past. This ensures greater image detail and consistency across prints.

Q: How long will my canvas print last?

A: With proper care, your giclee canvas print will last up to 150 years. Both Epson and Canon promote their inks as being highly resistant to fading over time, ensuring long-lasting vibrancy and quality.

What is Hahnemule Paper?

There are very few companies worldwide that can be proud of such a long company history like Hahnemühle’s. Founded back in 1584 as a paper mill in South Lower Saxony’s Solling uplands, Hahnemühle developed – strictly according to the spirit of its founding fathers – into a customer-oriented and innovative manufacturing facility.

It goes without saying that the products and manufacturing methods have changed since 1584. In the beginning, the product range solely comprised mold-made writing paper but later, artist papers and the Hahnemühle invented fine-art inkjet papers for digital print were added to the range. At the same time, several things have remained the same, such as their high-quality standard that guarantees our customers the purest papers for art or technical applications.

Our paper technologists are proficient in their trade. With high-quality pulp and by using formulations that are partly several centuries old, they produce traditional artist papers, FineArt inkjet papers and specialty papers.

Hahnemühle is the inventor of Fine Art InkJet Paper with a special ink-receiving layer surface treatment suitable for today's inkjet printers. This is particularly suitable for photography, computer art, and painting and photo fine art prints.
